ThreatMon Cyber Threat Intelligence team, using advanced FTI (Fraud Threat Intelligence) and PTI (Pentest Threat Intelligence) capabilities, has successfully solved a sophisticated fraud scheme running through Facebook Marketplace.

This operation exposed a planned fraud network that directed users to a second-hand goods sales site via bot messages. The attackers employed a remarkable form of social engineering, using a phishing-orientated site to compromise user information. The analytical skills of ThreatMon’s Cyber Threat Intelligence teams uncovered this activity through a deep investigation of the scam and identified a network where more than 1600 victims were scammed in this way.

The control panels used in managing this fraud network were associated with previous threats and identified as part of sophisticated software sold for 600-700 TL.
Our teams traced the attackers who quickly opened new addresses after the domains were shut down in Turkey and successfully concluded their operations by solving advanced cyber attack strategies.
This fraud chain, with more than 1600 victims, was uncovered in just 3 days.
