This operation exposed a planned fraud network that directed users to a second-hand goods sales site via bot messages. The attackers employed a remarkable form of social engineering, using a phishing-orientated site to compromise user information. The analytical skills of ThreatMon's Cyber Threat Intelligence teams uncovered this activity through a deep investigation of the scam and identified a network where more than 1600 victims were scammed in this way.
Key findings include:
- The control panels used in managing this fraud network were associated with previous threats and identified as part of sophisticated software sold for 600-700 TL.
- Our teams traced the attackers who quickly opened new addresses after the domains were shut down in Turkey and successfully concluded their operations by solving advanced cyber attack strategies.
